EFFECTS OF STRESS

Your relationship with stress is incredibly important!  Successfully manage your stress and watch the shifts you will experience in virtually every facet of your life.   Do you need to know how to deal with the harmful effects of stress or are you already doing a masterful job of it?  Let’s take a look.

HOW TO DEAL WITH THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF STRESS

When something stressful happens how do you frame it?  Do you remind yourself that conflict or “the rub” is what really creates significant and meaningful expansion in you?  Reminding yourself of this can help you feel uplifted and open to creative outcomes.  You can feel excited instead of in dread or upset.  

Are you paying close attention to your thoughts?  The effects on your body and your mood are substantially different depending on what you are thinking about each stressful situation.  Your body reacts with increasing or decreasing hormone levels, tension or relaxation, and various feelings moment by moment depending on your thoughts.  

How did your parents handle stress?  Whether they quickly came to a peaceful place about such circumstances or went into serious trauma and drama surely influenced your tendencies for dealing with conflicts.  I encourage you to consider whether you followed in your parents’ footsteps or made different choices.  You now have the opportunity to decide if you will continue following your current patterns or if you will choose differently.

Did you know that every cell in your body and even every system in your body is positively or negatively affected by how you manage stress?  Over time, your attitude and stress-handling skills can make a big difference in your level of overall health.  Take your immune system for example.  It can be stronger or weaker depending on whether you are all tense and tied up in knots or are in a state of curiosity, confidence and non-resistance.  Mastering how you respond to stress is a powerful way to care for your body!

One of my favorite ways to respond to something when I feel “the rub” is by asking questions.  Here are some of my favorites.  You can also create open-ended questions of your own.

  • What’s great about this that I haven’t seen yet?
  • How can I perceive this from a completely different viewpoint?
  • I know there’s something great available to me.  I wonder what that is?
  • What if I was just with this energy I am feeling in my body without any judgements or reactions?
